About Threads :
Threads is an 18-week accelerator program taking place in 4 regional classrooms: Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The program is supported by Standard Bank, in association with Mercedes-Benz, EOH learning & development, South African Tourism and Kaya FM. The program was curated in partnership with the University Cattolica of Milan and tackles the business side of fashion: from logistics to eCommerce, to franchising right through to accounting & marketing.
The program started on 24th October 2017, 12 outstanding fashion entrepreneurs were welcomed onto the program, forming the very first Threads cohort, with varied specializations from streetwear, modesty wear, maternity wear to even luxury leather goods and all with revenues from 60 000 USD to 250 000 USD yearly.
Every week on Mondays and Tuesdays, the entrepreneurs gather in their respective classrooms in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The different classrooms connected with the main classroom each week so all entrepreneurs could benefit from the academic teaching, guest lectures and case studies. Thanks to the partnership with EOH Learning & Development, each class room has a dedicated mentor to guide the entrepreneurs through the course material.
The program benefited from guest lectures from an array of world-class organizations and disciplines, including DHL, Broll Properties, Converse, Kisua, Dolce and Gabbana, Wesgro, Shopify, Vega School of Brand Management, SA Fashion Law, Anita Stanbury and many more. Additionally, curated in partnership with South African Tourism, three field trips to Eastern Cape, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal served to inspire the entrepreneurs on South African Arts & Culture, showcase Made in South Africa and allow them to learn from practice from some of South Africa’s leading business operations.
