Tshego “La Manche” and Timothy Maurice on eNCA

Last Saturday 4th of November, our judge Timothy Maurice and our fashion entrepreneur Tshego from La Manche went live on Weekend Wake Up at ENCA with one of South Africa’s favorite journalist, the wonderful Ayanda Allie Paine.

Although it was early, they certainly had a lot to talk about! In fact, even before the interview started and the camera was rolling, the stylish trio was already in deep discussions about the business of fashion.

From the start, Ayanda was curious about Threads and the global fashion versus African fashion phenomenon. They discussed the need to focus on the African fashion industry, the fashion value chain as well as to how exciting things are about to get for fashion entrepreneurs participating in accelerator programmes like Threads.

Timothy shared what he expects to find in the Threads fashion entrepreneurs: “bold, extraordinary minds to drive innovation”. In his eyes, bringing fashion entrepreneurs together, not just creatives from the industry, is one of the key elements of the Threads accelerator program.

On the other hand, Tshego gave us a glimpse into her brand, the challenges she’s met so far as well as her experience on Threads. From discovering the steps of customer service straight from luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana in Week 1 within the Threads Programme, to discussing her encounters with the many people not seeing fashion as a business, and not seeing her as a businesswoman.
